I saw the sun today
It rose above sleepy coastal fog
Into blue sky without clouds
Through redwood skyscrapers
Light danced with chickadees
As they swooped about the low branches
Cool breezes drifted in the window
Lost friends not felt for months
Brushing my cheek before teasing the cat's ear
The sun smiled at me with swelling golden light
Inspiring a flourish of hope
In this otherwise tedious black hole
