slip of the tongue

Rushing to her head
Side to side
Blood
From iced veins
He cut
Inside her
A slip of the tongue
Razored edges
Separating flesh truths
Her open wound
Cried
Frozen blue rivulets
Stream and stop
And stop
On molded skin
She made herself
Her very cold
The only stoppage
To this
Undying sameness

to this reader...the voice in the poem is longing and hating and escaping from the same source, that bittersweet moment wonderfully exposed. well done, heather...RS

A very hard narrative poem. Striking in it's stark words and simplicity. Thank you for sharing

Nice write. Slip of the tongue can cut like a knife....

Sometimes it is hard to remember that the sharpest knife we own is the one inside our mouth.

Hard and brittle, this poem. Like the subject...

Yeah having old wounds reopened that never heal, can be quite the ordeal. Really in your face write, nice job.

Words can cut us so quickly and of course it's a double-edged sword as we realize that we can't take back those cutting words wielded by our own tongues. Good poem.

A slip of the tongue can always hurt, depending on the angle with which it strikes the listener. The angle of your words, while sharp, open a vein to the heart of the poet. Very nice poem, Heather.
